One of the most scenic roads through Alberta's West is the Forestry Trunk Road.
The road to the Bearberry Nordic Centre is a connector to the Forestry Trunk Road. Only 5 minutes by car will bring you to a T-Intersection where you have the choice to go to the South as far as into the Kananaskis Country or to the North to Nordegg and further.
The Forestry Trunk Road is a gravel road and is used as a Log Haul Route. It's original length is more than 1,000 km and guides you up as far as to Grand Pairie in the North and to the Highwood Pass in the South.
Here is a selection of places you can explore during a day trip starting at our property:
Ram Falls - The trail begins at the Ram Falls picnic area. The 1.5 km trail allows good views of the narrow and rugged Ram River canyon. If you like you can follow the old ranger patrol route for approx. 15 km. This is an adventurous trail with creek crossings.
Baseline Mountain Fire Lookout - On your way to Baseline Mountain you will see all the beauty our backcountry has to offer. Spectacular views into the Clearwater Valley, wild flowers and of course lots of wildlife will accompany your trip. At the lookout gate off Forestry Trunk Road, a 4 km hike will lead you through dense fir and alder forests. It is an easy hike which provides you with excellent views in every direction.
Horseback Trails - Our backcountry offers horseback riders and mountain bikers endless opportunities to explore the beautiful meadows surrounded by cascading peaks.
